Volkswagen History - Did you know that the first Volkswagen was a Porsche design?
Ferdinand Porsche, who had been primary developer for Daimler-Benz, Auto-Union,
and now had his own technological inVolkswagention appointment company, was put
in charge of developing
the Volkswagen – “The PeoplesCar” by Adolf Adolf Hitler.
Hitler desired a small four seater car, with an air chilled and resilient engine that would get 40 miles to the quart, and could
be purchased for less than 1000 Marks
(about $250.00). Ferdinand Porsche had already been in the style levels of an
cost-effective small
car decades previously, but had never been able to carry it into production. Between 1935 and
1937 Porsche developed a complete of 50 Volkswagen prototypes with the smooth
four air chilled engine
developed by Franz Reimspeiss – a device very similar that used throughout the
vehicle's development.

It was only after the war in 1946 that the Volkswagen lastly
became the “Peoples Car”. The Wolfsburg plant was in the British
