In 1947 after the end of II World War the car production was started again. At
the same time Nissan cooperated with English Austin Motor Co. This auto
manufacturer’s platform was used for the first Datsun car models exported to
USA (Datsun 1000).
In 1951, using the experience of army car production during II World War,
Nissan built its legendary Patrol.
In 1960 Nissan Motor Corporation officially opened its first USA branch located
in California.
In 1966 Nissan bought Prince Motor Company, which allowed it to produce more
modern cars, fpr example Datsun 510 sedan. By the end of the sixties it was
exported more than 1 million Datsun cars.
In 1969 the production of sports car Datsun 240Z was started. It was equipped
with a six-cylinder engine 150 hp, which had the same power as one from Porsche
company and costed 2 times less. It wasn't surprise that it was sold about 500
000 Datsun 240Z cars in less than 10 years and this model became the
best-selling sports car of the seventies.
In 1980 Nissan opened a car factory located in Smyrna, Tennessee USA. In 1981
it was decided to produce and sell cars under the same brand name – Nissan.
From that time Datsun became history. In 1990 the company created a luxury
division – Infiniti. In the mid-nineties the future of Nissan was unclear, the
company began to experience financial difficulties. Global alliance with
Renault fully resolved finance problems of Nissan.
